Learn about programs and guidelines to keep swimmers safe at Y pools.

Pool Rules

  • Do not enter the pool if you have a communicable disease or an open cut.
  • Do not bring food, drink, gum or tobacco into the pool.
  • Shower before entering the pool and after use of toilet facilities.
  • Do not run or engage in rough play in the pool area. Profanity, improper behavior or vulgar remarks will not be tolerated.
  • Do not bring animals into the pool area.
  • Diaper changing on the pool deck is prohibited.
  • Glass and shatterable items are prohibited in the pool area.
  • Children 7 and under must be actively supervised by a supervising individual, who is 16 years or older.
  • Baby carriers, strollers, etc. are not permitted on the pool deck.
  • Inflatable flotation devices are not permitted except those provided by the YMCA or devices that are Coast Guard approved.
  • Proper swim attire must be worn. Street shoes are not permitted.
  • Children who are not toilet trained are required to wear a swim diaper covered by a tight topped suit or plastic pants.
  • Please obey all requests made by the lifeguard.
  • Children 7 years and under MUST be actively supervised by an individual 16 years or older who is in the water and within arm’s reach at all times.

Aquatic Safety Drills

  • For aquatic staff training, the YMCA does periodic safety drills by simulating emergencies.
  • Your cooperation in following staff instructions during a drill is greatly appreciated.
  • Thank you for your support in making your YMCA safe.

Swim Attire Guidelines

  • Clothing may be worn over a swimsuit if it is clean and family appropriate.
  • Clothing must be rinsed off thoroughly in the shower before entering the water.
  • Children who are not toilet trained are required to wear a swim diaper covered by a tight topped suit or plastic pants.

Swim Test Policy

Any youth under 16 wishing to swim in water deeper than chest depth must pass the swim test, which consists of:

  • Jumping feet first into the shallow end of the pool and submerging the head.
  • Swim with a strong stroke with arms coming out of the water without stopping for 20 yards.
  • Tread water for 30 seconds.

Whirlpool Rules

  • Elderly persons and persons suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high or low blood pressure should not enter the whirlpool.
  • Minors under the age of 18 are not permitted to use the whirlpool.
  • Persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs may not use the whirlpool. Hot water immersion while under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, drugs or medicines may lead to serious consequences and is not recommended.
  • Pregnant women should consult their physician regarding whirlpool usage.
  • Lengthy exposure may be hazardous to your health and may result in nausea, dizziness or fainting.
